There is always some sort of
negative stigma associated with older people dating younger people, especially
when the younger person is under 18. Most people feel this way because of the
laws we have set up and the belief that 15 is still a child. I did not feel
like their sexual relations was what was strange, but moreover how she treated
him. Clearly he is inlove with her, mostly because she is the first woman he
has ever been with but she treats him more like something casual. She also
always refers to him as “kid” is pretty weird, because she’s keeping it very
impersonal and because she’s drawing attention to the fact that he is a “kid”.
It’s also weird that they would act like mother and son, and that he would go
along with it. It just seemed very creepy because to the reader, or at least to
me, draws more attention to this age gap. Another strange thing is that she
actually treated him like her son, for example when she gave him bath which was
weird and creepy.
So far though I really liked the
book and thought it was interesting. Their relationship between them is
interesting and complex.
