The Reader 2nd Post

I found Part II to be a lot more interesting then part I. It reminded me of the Stranger considering that Part I serves as the set up for the eventual trial in Part II. Overall , I think the trial was very interesting as I find that entire part of German history quite intriguing. How does a new generation of German people deal with the atrocities committed by there parents and reprimand the people involved? It turns out Michael summed it up quite adequately as he said that the punishments had to be dealt and the new generation could only look away in shame. Part II also reveals a lot about Hanna and why she acted the way she did with Michael. Hanna's refusal to talk about her past now has justification , even if it doesn't excuse her actions. It also seems that Hanna never reflected individually on her decision to join the S.S. and maintained the same numbness Michael described in Part II as a defense mechanism. I thought Michael's wish for Hanna to be imprisoned to be quite interesting as he asserts that if she is not taken away to prison , he will confront her. In a way this tells me Michael still cares about her despite the incessant  numbness he describes. Regardless , the confrontation between Michael and Hanna will surely be interesting.
